*FAQ:
Q: What are the parameters of electrolytic capacitor?
A: 1)Rated capacitance: refers to the nominal value at a temperature of 25°C at 120Hz. The rated capacitance is the capacitance marked with the unit.
2)Basic unit: The basic unit of a capacitor is farad (F), but this unit is too large when used in actual situation. Other smaller units are as follow:
1F=1000mF, 1mF=1000μF, 1μF=1000nF, 1nF=1000pF
3)Rated voltage: The rated voltage refers to the maximum effective value of the DC voltage that can be continuously applied to the capacitor at the lowest ambient temperature and the rated ambient temperature.
4)Insulation resistance
A leakage current will be generated after a A DC voltage is applied to a capacitor. insulation resistance is the ratio of the DC voltage and leakage current.
5)Time constant
Time constant is used to evaluate the insulation of large capacitor. It is equal to the result of insulation resistance multiplying capacitance.
6)Loss
Capacitor loss includes: dielectric loss and metal loss. Dielectric loss is the energy consumed by the collision between molecules caused by the polarization process of the medium under the electric field. In actual situation, the equivalent resistance is the main cause of capacitor loss.
7)Frequency
Generally speaking, the capacitance of capacitors decreases as the frequency increases.
