The varistor plays an important role in the circuit. When the overvoltage occurs between the two stages of the varistor, the characteristics of the varistor can be used to clamp the voltage to a relatively fixed voltage value, so as to suppress the voltage in the circuit, protecting the subsequent circuit.
So do you know what these terms: nominal voltage, varistor voltage, residual voltage ratio, insulation resistance, current capacity, and leakage current mean for varistors? If you don't know, read this article to learn.
1. Nominal voltage (V): Also known as rated voltage, refers to the voltage value across the varistor when a DC current of 1m is passed.
2. Varistor voltage: The voltage value measured at both ends of the varistor when a specific current (1mA DC) flows through the varistor.
3. Residual voltage ratio: When the current through the varistor is a certain value, the voltage generated at both ends of the varistor is called the residual voltage of this current value. The residual voltage ratio is the ratio of the residual voltage to the nominal voltage.
4. Insulation resistance: the DC resistance of the insulator under specified conditions. The insulation resistance of the varistor refers to the resistance value between the lead wire (pin) of the varistor and the insulating surface of the resistor.
5. Flow capacity (kA): the peak current value allowed to pass through the varistor under the specified time interval and number of times, under the application of standard impulse current.
6. Leakage current (mA): refers to the current flowing through the varistor under the specified temperature and peak DC voltage.
Understanding the special terms of varistors may help when it comes to selecting varistors. Select a reliable manufacturer when purchasing ceramic capacitors can avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble. JYH HSU (or Dongguan Zhixu Electronics) not only has full models of ceramic capacitors with guaranteed quality, but also offers worry-free after-sales.
